WHS Due Diligence for Senior Managers and Boards

Overview

In many states Industrial Manslaughter laws are in place. Even in NSW and in other jurisdictions, such as South Australia or Tasmania, employers can be prosecuted for workplace fatalities under general workplace safety laws. Penalties can be imposed of up to $3 million or imprisonment for up to 5 years.

This course aims to provide practical information on how individuals and Boards can protect themselves and their organisation from legal sanctions associated with a fatal or serious injury.

Who should attend

This course is recommended for Board members, business owners and senior managers, safety managers/coordinators and human resources managers.

Topics covered include:

• Elements of a WHS Due Diligence program.
• Optimising your program.
• Minimising failure by increasing redundancy in critical areas.
• The role of consultation and communication in supporting workplace cultural change.
• Maintaining consultation and communication (avoiding meeting fatigue)

Learning Outcomes

On completion, participants should be able to:

• Understand the requirements of a Due Diligence program
• Identify critical elements of the program and why they fail.
• How to implement a Due Diligence program that is cost effective.
• Understand how the WHS program links with other systems within your organisation.

Award

A Certificate of Attendance will be issued at the completion of the course.
