Significant changes to the Fair Work Act: An introduction for Employers on the latest amendments

On 2 December 2022, the Federal Parliament passed the Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Secure Jobs Better Pay) Bill, after it was tabled in the House of Representatives less than 6 weeks prior (on 27 October 2022), and following amendments to the Bill in both Houses of Parliament.

The Bill received Royal Assent on 6 December 2022, and has come into law as the Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Secure Jobs Better Pay) Act (‘the Amendment Act’), with some parts of the new legislation commencing from 7 December 2022.

The Amendment Act gives effect to some of the most significant IR changes in the last decade, involving substantive amendments to the Fair Work Act.  It will be critical for all employers to be aware of how the new legislation affects them.  This includes employers with less than 20 employees.

In this important Webinar developed specifically for employers, AFEI will provide an introduction to key elements of the new legislation, including changes to:

• the NES
• Discrimination and harassment protections;
• Legal restrictions on the use of fixed term contracts;
• The enterprise bargaining landscape, including increased union powers;
• Industrial action laws and bargaining disputes in the FWC;
• Provisions relevant to equal remuneration and work value cases in the FWC (such as the current Aged Care Work Value case
