It is clear that the role of the board of management, or
management committee, is becoming more and more important. The need for
sound inspiration, community connection and direction can, at times,
conflict with the pressures for compliance, budgetary responsibility
and appropriate management, and can make the task of being a director a
difficult one. The complexity, and any downside of being a director,
can be offset by having a sound basis or framework for undertaking the
task of governance.
