Minimum wage increases by $26 per week

Fair Work Australia has increased the minimum weekly wage by $26.00. The increase starts on 1 July 2010 and takes effect from the first full pay period that starts on or after that date.

For award and agreement free employees the national minimum wage for an adult is currently set at $543.00. After the increase, this will rise to $569.90 per week, which is an hourly rate of $15.00.

The hourly rate has been calculated on the basis of a 38 hour week for a full-time employee.

This year the minimum wages increase will also coincide with the first phase of the transition to modern award pay rates. The transitional calculation is mathematically complex and is further complicated by the effect of the wage increase.

AFEI is running a series of complimentary workshops for members on the wage review from Thursday 17 June—Friday 25 June. You will need to register online or by fax to attend.

We encourage you to come to a workshop and meet our senior industrial relations specialists who will:

  • explain the FWA minimum wage review decision
  • outline the phasing-in of modern award rates of pay
  • provide you with worked examples using real wage rates for certain awards
  • help you understand what take-home pay orders mean for your business.
