ACCI AFEI January 2010 investor confidence survey

The January 2010 ACCI Survey of Investor Confidence has found that business conditions improved over the December quarter, with most expectations indicators for the next 3 to 12 months moving into expansionary territory and increasing above their five year averages.

However, one notable exception is Own Expected Level of Investment (p.7) which remains in negative territory indicating that businesses remain pessimistic about their business capital expenditure plans in the first half of 2009.

The Top Ten Constraints on Investment:

1. Business Taxes and Government Charges (1)
2. Wage Costs (4)
3. Non-Wage Labour Costs (3)
4. Local Competition (7)
5. Insufficient Demand (2)
6. State Government Regulations (6)
7. Charges by Lending Institutions (9)
8. Federal Government Regulations (8)
9. Insufficient Retained Earnings (5)
10. Level of Interest Rates (12)

The figures in brackets show the ranking in the September quarter survey.

The survey covers the three months to December 2009.
