Health & Safety Committee Training

 

Overview

The aim of this course is to provide the information and skills to enable participants to better understand the functions of the Health and Safety Committee and how the committee can make worthwhile contributions to safety while assisting the Persons Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU) to meet their legal workplace safety consultation requirements.

This course is recommended for members of health and safety committees, health and safety representatives (HSR), WHS managers, line managers and supervisors.

  • Who does a Health and Safety Committee represent?
  • Who can be a Health and Safety Committee member?
  • Functions of a Health and Safety Committee
  • Meetings of the Health and Safety Committee
  • The role of the Health and Safety Committee member
  • Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) and their link with the Health and Safety Committee
  • Effective Health and Safety Committee meeting practice
  • Ensuring that the Health and Safety Committee is effective

 

Learning Outcomes

On completion, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the significance of consultation and culture in WHS
  • Explain how the Health and Safety Committee can assist the PCBU to consult and how, when and why consultation should be conducted in the workplace
  • Explain the functions of the Health and Safety Committee and the responsibilities of the Chairperson, Secretary and members
  • Explain strategies to ensure that the Health and Safety Committee remains relevant and effective while influencing the organisation's safety culture
  • Describe how the Health and Safety Committee is referenced in WHS legislation and how they can assist the PCBU to minimise safety risks while complying with WHS legislation

Award

All participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance at the completion of the course.
